Hi, my name is Aidan, I am an early career professional with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, I am now working in the tech industry.
When I was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 9, it marked the beginning of a journey that shaped most of my academic career. Back then, I wasn't entirely sure what it meant, and even now, I admit, I don't fully comprehend it. But what I have come to realize is that dyslexia shapes you as an individual in unique ways.
It's fascinating how people with dyslexia have minds that think differently, and I've come to see this as their strength. Recognising and nurturing the exceptional abilities that come with dyslexia is imperative.
I am grateful that I received my diagnosis at a young age because it enabled my family and me to seek the necessary support to aid my learning. Dyslexia may never completely go away, but I've learned valuable skills and techniques that have helped me overcome areas of struggle.
Throughout this journey, my family has been an unwavering source of support, and I cannot thank them enough. My mum, Jackie, dedicated countless hours every week to guide, teach, and support me from day one.
Having dyslexia is just one part of who I am, and I firmly believe that with determination, patience, and the right support, individuals like us can achieve remarkable things in academics and beyond.
